Al Rum, Alaró's Cultural Association, was founded in 2006 to work in favour of the village's heritage and culture, and to promote it by carrying out activities such as visits, presentations, publications and exhibitions.
We defend and negotiate with the administrations to allocate public funds for the restoration of heritage assets such as Alaró Castle or the altarpieces of the parish church.
We have also acquired or negotiated the donation of works of art related to the town. Some examples are: the archive of the estate of Son Curt, a Gothic Virgin Mary displayed in the church, half a dozen paintings by Gabriel Reinés (an Alaró painter of the 19th century), engravings dated back to 1825, books on the history of football and more.
We support people who work on different aspects of Alaró's history. Since our foundation, we have published around fifteen books and leaflets ranging from the events of Cabrit i Bassa, the 1652 plague, the publication of the history of our streets or the catalogue of the sculptures of the Alaró parish church.
We also support the archaeological works carried out at the village's archaeological sites. These are: Sa Bastida (IV to VIII centuries) and the Alaró Castle (VII century onwards).
In addition to publications, we organise exhibitions and guided tours. We have held around fifteen exhibitions including those dedicated to Cabrit and Bassa, the painter Gabriel Reinés, the first findings of Sa Bastida, various collections of photographs, the 75th anniversary of the proclamation of the Spanish Republic, collections of old photographs of numerous authors and many more.
Throughout 2023, we published 3 books, 4 exhibitions, and numerous activities to continue protecting and disseminating the heritage of Alaró.
Throughout 2022, we had numerous activities, although the association was primarily focused on promoting and organising events related to the 4th Centenary of the Castle chapel.
We have four works that we plan to publish in the coming years. We are preparing new exhibitions, the next one dedicated to the Alaró railway. We want to find more works of art and archives connected with the town so that these can be acquired or arranged for their donation. For these acquisitions, we actively seek sponsorship from businesses and private individuals. We want to organise guided tours for foreign residents in their language. We will continue excavating at Sa Bastida. We are always open to new opportunities and proposals.
